ExpanTek® Triplex Hydro-Pel® Expansion System

The patented ExpanTek® Triplex Hydro-Pel® Expansion System is a method of tube expansion using a projectile, usually a ball, placed in a tube with water pressure forcing the ball through the tube. The amount of expansion that takes place relates to the ball diameter and thickness of the tube wall. This method is suggested for straight length tubes where one operator performs the expansion.

For standard tube belling applications the conventional ball expansion method is used. The operator places a ball into the tube and positions the expanding tool over the tube end, then starts the system pressure cycle. High-pressure water is directed behind the ball, forcing it down the length of the tube.

The Airmo ExpanTek® Triplex Hydro-Pel® System is designed to mechanically expand heat exchanger tubing reliably and efficiently. No setup is required for different tube configurations on the coils, as tubes expand individually using a steel ball. Water at high-pressure is used to force a ball larger than the tube interior dimension through the tube to expand it to the desired diameter. The diameter of the ball determines the amount of tube expansion. Using water as a driving force, the pressure quickly drops when the ball clears the tube allowing the ball to exit the tube at a low velocity for easy capture.
